Welcome

Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua. We are a liberal religious community devoted to promoting individual spiritual development and working toward peace, liberty and justice in our immediate and global communities.

Our congregation is part of the Saint Lawrence District of the Unitarian Universalist Association of America. The UUA was founded in 1961 as the result of a merger between the Unitarian Church and the Universalist Church. Both religions gained momentum in the United States during the 19th century.

The Unitarian Universalist presence has been felt in Chautauqua County since 1821. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua was formed in 1983 by a small group of members from the Adams Memorial Unitarian Church in Dunkirk, which closed in 1972, and others who had moved to the area.

The congregation presently serves the spiritual needs of north county families, many of whom come to Unitarian Universalism from other religious traditions. New members and friends are always welcome. One joins the society by signing the membership book and making a contribution of record. No acceptance of a formal creed is required.

Our worship services are held each Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Grange Hall, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Religious education for school-aged children (grades 1-5) is held during the worship service. Middle school and high school aged youth meet after the worship service, or at other times, for a Coming of Age class and for youth group activities. Loving care is provided for younger children during the worship service and most other Church functions.
